Soft Tissue Release

Dr. Heller may opt to use any number of soft tissue release techniques along with the adjustments to speed your healing. Soft tissue release (STR) provides an excellent way to assist the body in recovery from pain and injuries.

STR therapy is often used to target specific trouble spots after an accident or injury has left you stiff and sore, such as in instances of whiplash, falls, sports injuries and over exertion where a cycle of improper healing has started.

STR works by breaking down muscle adhesions and scar tissue that can build up after an accident or a chronic illness. By applying heavy, controlled pressure and/or friction across the grain of the afflicted tissue, STR relaxes rigid tissue and relieves the pain associated with stiff muscles, ligaments and tendons helping to restore a more normal healing process.

Soft tissue release

Soft tissue release (STR) has a number of beneficial effects on the body and the mind. Benefits of SRT include:

- remove toxins from the muscles of the body,
- increase blood circulation
- increase lymphatic drainage
- increase flexibility in the muscles and the connective tissue
- relieve muscle and joint pain
- reduce stress
- reduce muscle spasms
- aids healing of soft tissue injuries
- reduce the overall recovery time
- increase balance

STR may cause some discomfort, and you will be encouraged to keep the doctor informed about your comfort level and pain tolerance during soft tissue therapy. You may be to apply ice to tender spots following STR therapy. Some soreness the day after a STR therapy can be expected, though the discomfort should pass in a day.
